Mmmmm remote controlled curtains

by on Apr.28, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

Just like many devices associated with automation my wallet is at the mercy of any of the new stuff produced through companies such as Inc and the Zigbee Alliance.

Almost all of these new products produced are not actually as novel as they would seem due to the fact that these things could be accomplished previously working with existing readily available items but for beginners they’re accessible as a clean little set. As a side benefit these kits don’t need a complicated circuit diagram to figure it out.

Upon closer inspection there are several likenesses with the various technologies. For instance, none of the technologies use battery-operated products as RF repeaters, and they all use RF one way or another. Digging deeper though, it becomes complicated – I could venture to portray it at this point and mess it up, this site ISY-99 has good discussions digging into the differences.

Now if anyone has any thoughts regarding tricks to make a bit of money to pay for the latest compulsion, for pete’s sake pass it along!

Dreaming about our integration of entertainment centers combined with Insteon …

by on Apr.27, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

Changing passions from automation of your home over into home cinemas is hardly that much of a jump considering the majority of people (not counting us) probably began the exploration for perfect ambiance via a remote control to make the uber-cool theatre room replica complete. In my mind the AMX controllers are a marvel and we now bought one for each of our house’s plasmas. When you consider that I almost never do the live programming style of watching at all, there’s frequently a bunch of devices to flick on which took so much time grabbing the first remote followed by the next in line until things were setup, only to go backwards on the procedure after whatever I was watching was completed.

That said, the crossover of lighting control and entertainment is becoming nearer every week with quite a few of the more innovating vendors selling infrared control from your house network recently and so anyone with an interest can now perform things such as commanding a mp3 system on a different floor of the house using the RF house device. Very cool overall, and it’s illustrated in more of an easy to understand fashion here X10 home automation when contrasted against most sites so it’s for sure a good site which simplifies things amazingly well.

It’s apparent that he is almost scarily passionate regarding technology.

Argh, I daydream to avoid traffic on my drive in!

by on Apr.27, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

Some weeks I like working downtown, but there are times when the drive by itself is reason enough to convince me to go back to bed. There are horrible people driving coupled with hardly any thoughts to the road. To top it off, I tipped my Timmies on the way into the lot...

So this is life.

My call with Quinn got me thinking …..

by on Apr.26, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

I recently saw a huge building on that house makeover show which almost made me want to copy it – It was crazy lighting control and did a excellent job setting things up. Nearly every ceiling fan was integrated and stuff like the car starters plus the bathroom plasmas were eerily controlled.

Comparison
I always liked the clapper for forever but I had never seen systems like this, it was wicked and I want everything I saw now.
I often day dream of letting the superhome that we live in (slight exageration) do cool things like turning on the shower in the morning or voice alerting us to someone at the door. Although these situations are still pretty far in the future (it should be noted that there are people that could do it) despite this some more pragmatic goals for example environment modes which can be changed over the internet are ubiquitous and economical this year. One more thing to do: persuade my financial advisor- then she can blame the page that got me interested: ISY-99i forum

Some days, I despise 2 hour delays on the way to work!

by on Apr.26, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

Most days I am apathetic about my workplace, but sometimes the travel alone is all it takes to make me want to move far away. Too many brutal sheeple coupled with a passing interest in concentration to driving. As if that wasn’t enough, I then tipped my Starbucks coming into the parking stall...

I hate these days.
