Must…buy… Z-Wave

With regards to things related to house automation I’m a big fan of the new items being released through consortiums like Home Automation Inc and the Z-Wave alliance.
Many of these new products being released aren’t really as big a deal as they claim because they has been accomplished previously utilizing available standard stuff but now they are available as a nice package. That and now you don’t feel like you need fluke testers around the house to get it working.
Upon closer inspection there are quite a few resemblances between the major players. For instance, none of the offerings use portable products as signal boosters, and nearly all devices use radio frequency as a backup. Digging deeper however, it gets more a bit complex – I could attempt to outline it here and make mistakes, this site ISY-99 Insteon has good discussions highlighting some of the discrepancies.
Now anybody having good ideas for tricks to earn a bit of funds to cover the new dependence, don’t hesitate to let us know!

There was this one house on holmes on homes which almost caused me to beg my wife – The house had domotics and performed a excellent job of the implementation. Every ceiling fan knew what the other was doing and since this was an extreme case the litter boxes plus the heated floors were eerily controlled.
I always liked Insteon for years but I’d never seen something like this, it was wicked and I’m still in shock.
Sometimes I dream of having my house more automated so it can like running a bath by just asking the house to or voice alerting us to someone at the door. Although these situations are a bit out from now (it should be noted that some people in the forums have done it) however things such as lighting which respond to your moods are ubiquitous and economical lately. Now it’s just up to me to win over my lovely wife...... following which she can hold responsible the page that helped me learn about this stuff: Z-Wave home automation
