Everyone asks about Insteon

by on May.24, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

As with all things associated with automation I pay a lot of attention to the recent devices for sale through companies such as Power Control Systems and SmartLabs.
It should be noted that the new items for sale are not so much as much of a movement as one would imagine due to the fact that this stuff was built previously working with existing basic component products but nowadays they’re presented as a tidy package. As a side benefit you won’t feel like you need fluke testers around the house to get it working.

A few comparisons show us a few resemblances with the product lineups. For example, none of the product lineups use handheld remote items as signal relays, and it seems like all use radio frequency one way or another. Looking deeper however, things get more involved – I’d rather not try to express it at this point and make a bunch of errors, a site like this ISY-99 does a good job of highlighting any variations.

That said if anyone has thoughts relating to tricks to pull together some dough to sponsor our new obsession, kindly help me out!

Considering our inclusion of media room with lighting control …

by on May.23, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

Changing passions starting with domotics over into home movie rooms is not that much of a evolution in view of the fact that several people (myself included) probably started the exploration for lighting control via a integrated control unit to make the super cool theatre room replica ideal. Maybe it’s just me but the Harmony series of controllers are a godsend and we got one for each of the LCDs. Taking into consideration that I never do the live programming thing any more, it seems there’s always what seemed like many things to switch on and it made me so frustrated picking up the first control followed by the next until things were setup, before we have to go backwards on the process once the show was completed.

Speaking of remotes, the crossover of technologies like with our ‘relaxing’ technologies is inching closer by the time I check with some well known vendors releasing IR integration from your home system now and because of this anyone with an interest can then do actions like networking a receiver that’s at the far end of the place having only your remote controls. Can you tell I’m excited? It’s neat, and it’s illustrated more completely at Zwave vs Insteon than other blogs so it’s for sure a key spot to check out.

That guy is borderline psychotic when reviewing technology.

Some days, I hate 2 hour delays during my drive!

by on May.23, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

The majority of times I like my job, but sometimes the travel alone is all that’s needed to convince me to quit. Some people are such horrible people driving coupled with barely any attention to the pavement. As if that wasn’t enough, I then hit my carefully balanced coffee just as I pulled in to the parkade...
Think happy thoughts.

Must…buy… Z-Wave

by on May.22, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

I should let people know that for technologies associated with automation I’m a big fan of most of the new items produced from places like SmartLabs and the Zigbee Alliance.

What’s interesting is that these latest products produced are not so much big a deal as they claim due to the fact that these things was accomplished other ways utilizing existing readily available devices but now they are accessible as a prebuilt kit. One other thing is you won’t need a complicated circuit diagram to make it work.

Certainly there exist quite a few likenesses with the vendor offerings. As an example, almost none of the technologies use handheld remote items as message relays, and they all use wireless communication in some manner. When investigating further though, it becomes more complicated – I’m not going to endeavor to express it here and make a bunch of errors, a site like this ISY-99i forum has pages dedicated to showcasing some of the contrast points.

That said if anyone has any legal ideas relating to methods to earn enough dough to sponsor my latest habit, comment below and let me know!

Kicking off the incorporation of media centers despite having remote control lights …

by on May.22, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

Making the jump starting with domotics over to home movie rooms is not that big of a conversion taking into account most individuals (not counting us) almost certainly kicked off their curiosity for perfect ambiance via a remote to make the super cool theatre room experience complete. Personally the Logitech Harmony remotes have turned out to be a godsend and we now got one for virtually all of our house’s tv watching areas. When you consider that I almost never do the non-PVR thing at all, there is frequently a ton of items to turn on which made me so frustrated grabbing the first clicker followed by the next until all the devices were on, before we have to go backwards on the process after we were over.

With that in mind, the commingling of technologies like and home theatres is moving more real every day with many well known producers offering infared transmit and receive from a automation network recently and so anyone with an interest can now perform actions like commanding a tuner that’s on a different floor of the place having the wireless house tool. Can you tell I’m excited? It’s neat, although everything is illustrated in more detail at this site X10 review than many sites so it’s absolutely a essential location to check out.
I love that he is way too enthusiastic when discussing technology.
