I’m dreaming of domotics

by on Sep.28, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

When dealing with items considered to be automation I can’t resist all the new devices developed from places like the Z-Wave alliance and the Z-Wave alliance.

Many of the recent items developed shouldn’t be considered in reality as as much of a movement as one would imagine because these things could be done other ways working with available standard products but for those starting out they’re available as a tidy set. One other thing is you won’t need a complicated circuit diagram to understand how it works.

Certainly there exist a lot of likenesses with the brands. As an example, none of the offerings use cordless devices as signal boosters, and almost all products use RF in some capacity. Looking deeper however, it gets interesting – Rather than struggle to explain it here and make a bunch of errors, a site like this Home automation iPhone has pages dedicated to analyzing some of the differentiators.

That said anybody having any thoughts regarding ways to bring in enough dough to make up for my recent habit, for pete’s sake let me know!

How frustrating, I friggin hate crashes on the way to work!

by on Sep.27, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

Most days I take satisfaction in my day job, but every so often the trip to work is sufficient to make me want to move far away. Too many stupid motorists and hardly any attention to the pavement. Adding insult to injury, what happens next? I tipped the stupid coffee driving in to the garage... Whatever.

Our discussion made it hard to think about anything else …..

There was a sweet house on extreme home makeover that totally caused me to drool – Everywhere they had installed domotics and performed a really fantastic job of the implementation. Almost every window curtain had a remote control and stuff like the inside doors and hot tub were accessible from the many panels in the house.

I always liked basic for forever but I’d never seen automation of this level, it was sensational and I want everything I saw now.

I’ve thought about making my house do fancy tasks like adjusting the temperature for each room or checking our grocery list for items we’re missing. maybe some stuff is a bit out from now (it should be noted that some people are doing it) though things for example lighting control for different moods or events are available and affordable recently. When I get home I will plead my case to the wife... then she can blame the link that got me interested: ISY-99i

She just loves Insteon

by on Sep.26, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

Like most devices related to house automation I can’t resist any new stuff being released by consortiums such as the Zigbee Alliance and Inc.

It should be noted that these latest items being released aren’t really as much of a step forward as you’d think because these things was built other ways using other readily available stuff but nowadays they are available as a organized kit. As a side benefit these kits don’t require fluke testers around the house to get it working.

Certainly there exist numerous likenesses amongst the vendor offerings. For example, few of the product lineups use cordless devices as message relays, and all the items use RF in some manner. With other differences however, it gets more involved – Rather than venture to explain it at this point and make a bunch of errors, there’s a site here Zwave lighting has good discussions analyzing the contrast points.

That said anybody having any visions for ways to pull together enough funds to sponsor the recent compulsion, kindly let us know!

Talking to Frank got me started !

by on Sep.26, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

I recently saw this mansion on abc which probably made my jaw drop – They were using lighting control and did a seriously outstanding job making it all work. Nearly every window curtain was centrally controlled and I think even the outside sprinklers and bathroom plasmas were controlled.

Putting the pieces together

I had been curious about devices for controlling lights for years but thinking about automation so integrated, it was amazing and I want everything I saw now.
Sometimes I dream of letting our home do fancy tasks like following me with music through the house or displaying the news in the bathroom mirror. maybe some stuff is still several years in terms of general accessibility (despite the fact that some people are in the process of it) still some more pragmatic goals for example atmosphere settings for different moods or events have come down in price and reasonably priced today. I think I need to persuade the lady writing the cheques... then she can blame the place that got me started on all this: Zwave lighting
