Chatting with Joe got me started

I recently saw a house on that house makeover show which literally caused me to beg my wife – It was crazy automatic sprinklers and performed a so-so job of the implementation. It seemed like every door could be controlled and even things like the dishwasher plus the arcade room were fully integrated.

My passion has been X10 for a while now but thinking about systems like this, it was wicked and I’m still in shock.

Sometimes I dream of letting the superhome that we live in (slight exageration) do neat stuff along the lines of adjusting the temperature for each room or checking our grocery list for items we’re missing. I’ll admit some stuff is a ways from now (it should be noted that some houses have made it work) but items such as lighting control which respond to your moods should be locally available and affordable now. Now it’s just up to me to persuade the wife...... at which point she can focus her energy on the link that got me started on all this: Z-Wave home automation

2009 is the year of remote controlled curtains

by on Nov.20, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

I should let people know that for items associated with automation my wallet is at the mercy of the recent devices coming out from consortiums such as SmartLabs and Power Control Systems.

Many of these latest devices coming out aren’t in reality as revolutionary as evolutionary in that this stuff could all be built other ways working with available off-the-shelf items but instead now they are offered as a nice kit. Another perk is you won’t feel like you need a 6 page schematic to figure it out.

A deeper look shows us a few correlations with the technologies involved. One such similarity, not one of the technologies use handheld remote products as message relays, and they all use RF in some way. Beyond this still, things become interesting – I’m not going to endeavor to portray it at this point and explain things poorly, there’s a site here Insteon iPhone has good discussions analyzing the divergences.

So if anyone has thoughts on methods to earn sufficient cash to sponsor our recent dependence, kindly let me know!
