Talking to Frank got me thinking …

by on Nov.28, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

There was a sweet house on that show after Lost that seriously caused me to drool – They had used X10 and performed a pretty decent job of the implementation. Every overhead light knew what the rest of the house was doing and even things like the dishwasher plus the gazebo roof were part of the system.

Precarious Position of the Day

I have loved lighting control for a long time but I had never seen a dream house like this, it was crazy and I want everything I saw now.

I’ve thought about having where we’re living more automated so it can along the lines of announcing caller ID anywhere in the house or voice alerting us to someone at the door. I’ll admit some stuff is most realistically a couple years in terms of general accessibility (despite the fact that some people could do it) however more practical items for example environment modes at the touch of a button should be locally available and affordable lately. Now it’s just up to me to persuade the lady writing the cheques... following which she can hold responsible the page which made me interested in the first place: ISY-99 Insteon

Argh, I hate 2 hour delays on the way in!

Many times I take satisfaction in my day job, but there are times when the trip to work is enough to force me to resign. One in three are horrible sheeple with not enough attention to the thing in front of them. Adding to this, what happens next? I tipped the stupid coffee just as I pulled in to the parking spot... Whatever.

Dreaming about the consolidation of home theatre despite having lighting control …

by on Nov.27, 2009, under Home Automation, insteon, lighting control, zwave

Going from lighting control over into in-house theatres is not very big of a evolution considering several people (myself included) almost certainly started their journey for lighting control through a integrated control unit to make the entire room-turned-theatre replica complete. In my mind the Logitech remote controls have turned out to be a marvel and we got one for each one of our tv sets. Since we just don’t do the live programming style of watching any more, it seems there’s constantly so many devices to switch on which wasted my time using one control and then the next one until all the devices were on, before we have to repeat the method once the movie was done.

Speaking of remotes, the mixture of and home theatres is moving closer every week with many of the popular producers offering UHF control from a domotics system as of late and as a result anyone with an interest can then do actions we couldn’t do before like switching the station of a radio which could be across the apartment having just one’s handheld house tool. Neat stuff, although it is illustrated more thoroughly here: Zwave devices than some sites so it is definitely a good spot to learn from.
The writer there is borderline psychotic regarding automation devices.

I’m dreaming of Creston

When it comes to items considered to be domotics I watch pretty carefully new stuff available by places such as the Zigbee Alliance and the Z-Wave alliance.
The thing is the latest devices available aren’t really as revolutionary as evolutionary since they likely had been accomplished before working with other readily available devices but now they are available as a clean little package. Another perk is you won’t require fluke testers around the house to set things up.

Indianapolis dream home theater

Certainly there exist many similarities among the various technologies. For instance, none of them use handheld remote devices as message relays, and almost all products use radio waves in some manner. Looking deeper however, things become more complicated – I’d rather not try to explain it myself and make mistakes, this site Insteon vs X10 does a good job of analyzing some of the differences.

Now if anyone has good ideas for ways for me to make a bit of dough to cover my recent dependence, kindly share!

A commercial made me think …..

There was this one house on that show after Lost that seriously made my jaw drop – They were using and performed a so-so job making it all work. Each window curtain was centrally controlled and get this- the fridge (including ice maker) and heated floors were accessible from the many panels in the house.

I had been curious about Zigbee for a while now but I hadn’t even dreamed about something this advanced, it was inspiring and truly remarkable.

Sometimes I dream of letting where we’re living do fancy tasks along the lines of running a bath by just asking the house to or announcing the weather for the day in the morning. Some of these things are most realistically a couple years in terms of general accessibility (despite the fact that some houses are in the process of it) however some more pragmatic goals for example music for parties or relaxing are ubiquitous and easy(er) on the pocket today. The last step is to convince the wife...... following which she can focus her energy on the link that got me interested: Insteon vs X10
