When dealing with devices considered to be house automation I can’t resist some of the recent items produced through consortiums like SmartLabs and the Z-Wave alliance.
Nearly all of the new items produced aren’t really as new as they appear seeing as they could be created before utilizing existing off-the-shelf stuff but now they are accessible as a prebuilt set. That and now you don’t feel like you need a complicated circuit diagram to set things up.

Certainly there exist several resemblances between the various technologies. For example, none of the offerings use cordless items as message repeaters, and almost all products use advanced RF to strengthen signals.
