Just like many devices related to house automation I pay a lot of attention to most of the new releases available through consortiums like the Z-Wave alliance and the Zigbee Alliance.
The thing is the new items available aren’t really as new as they appear because these things was built previously utilizing other basic component products but for beginners they’re accessible as a tidy set. Another perk is these kits don’t feel like you need fluke testers around the house to figure it out.

Certainly there exist numerous parallels with the major players. One such similarity, few of the technologies use portable products as RF repeaters, and almost all products use wireless communication in some way. Digging deeper though, it becomes complicated – I could attempt to describe it myself and explain things poorly, a site like this ISY-99i forum does a good job of digging into some of the differences.
That said if anyone has any legal ideas relating to tricks to make sufficient money to sponsor our new addiction, please let us know!
