I should let people know that for devices associated with house automation I watch pretty carefully the recent releases available by vendors such as the Z-Wave alliance and Power Control Systems.
Many of these new products available shouldn’t be considered so much new as they appear in that this stuff could all be built through other means working with existing standard products but for beginners they are presented as a nice set. That and these kits don’t feel like you need an electrical engineering degree to get it working.

Looking closer we see numerous likenesses between the major players. One such similarity, almost none of them use portable items as signal relays, and almost all products use radio waves someway. When investigating further still, it gets a bit complex – I’d rather not venture to describe it myself and make mistakes, this site Insteon Controller has pages dedicated to showcasing the differentiators.
